Disneyland Castle Refurbishment- What to Expect

January 16, 2019

Many of you have heard the Castle is being refurbished and are concerned if your Disneyland experience is going to be ruined.

Fear not, the castle is totally still a great place to get those iconic photos!  Here are some images caught during the refurb to set your mind at ease.

As you can see from Main Street USA, you cannot even see the big fence around the castle.

As you get closer, ya, its clear you cannot get close to the castle.  However, this in itself could be a great picture spot.  Maybe a new wall that will pop up on Instagram?  It certainly is not the eye sore I was expecting.

The remodel is slated to last from January 2019 to "Spring".  What that means exactly in terms of when the castle will be ready no one can really say, but my guess would be the castle will be done with its makeover by late April, ready for the busy season of Star Wars opening to begin.

The fencing does make entering Fantasyland a little trickier.  Here is a quick map shot to give you an idea about how to enter the area.  We were just there and it wasn't a hassle at all.

I share these images knowing that Disneyland pulled a permit with the City of Anaheim to repair the roof of the castle.  So, although not much of the castle is covered now, expect that there may be some scaffolding and roof coverings up at some point.  I trust that Disney will do a great job trying to make the castle aesthetically pleasing for its guests while doing so.

In the meantime, enjoy other parts of the park.  New Orleans Square is amazing in the off season, as making your way through the crowds during a busy time can be insane.  Enjoy the short wait times for the rides.  Its not unheard of to walk on Space Mountain in the morning without a wait.  Gobble up those treats that will often sell out during peak season.  There are bright sides to going while a renovation is happening!

For those amazing Disney pics, try out some of the other great spots that the magical photographers have available.  As you can see from this image, you can hardly tell the castle has a wall around it!

Some of our other favorites are in front of the carousel in Fantasyland, in front of the Matterhorn, on Main Street USA, and of course right in front of the entrance is an iconic photo spot.

Don't worry, there is still plenty of magic to be had!
