Why We Loved Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter

April 16, 2019

I have spent so much time gushing about our experiences at Disneyland, but today (and more so in the future), I am going to share some Disneyworld action.

We recently stayed at Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter at Disney world.  Today's post will be a list of all the things we loved and observed about this hotel and why you may want to consider it for your next trip.

1. Price-

Disney world has three tiers of hotels on property: Deluxe, Moderate and Value.  Port Orleans French Quarter is what Disney world deems a Moderate Resort. This means that the price is going to be somewhere in the middle (Generally $200-$400 per night).  This was a big motivator for us on our last trip.  We have stayed in Deluxe resorts before, but for this trip we knew we wanted to splurge on some other experiences so a moderate hotel made sense for us.  We found this property affordable and worth every penny we spent.

2.  Size-

Some of the Disney world Lodging options are so overwhelming you feel like you are navigating a small town to get to your room.  Some examples of the extra large properties are Coronado Springs, Saratoga Springs, Port Orleans Riverside, Caribbean Beach Resort and Contemporary Resort.  These properties sprawl for miles and you can walk forever to get to your room.  After a long day of walking in the parks, I didn't want that.  French Quarter was very small and easy to navigate.  It was just a short walk to the food options, to the pool or the front desk.

3.  Transportation-

There are only two options for transportation for this resort.  Bus is the only option when going to the parks.  The nice thing is that this property only shares the bus with Riverside and one other resort so you won't have to make ten stops on the way to the parks like the buses that share with the value resorts.  We never found the wait to be very long and it didn't take to long to get to parks (except for Animal Kingdom which is removed from everything) once on the bus.  They do offer a boat option which only takes you to Disney Springs.  If you have never been to Disney Springs, you have to check it out.

4.  Pool-

This pool is super cute.  They have a lovely bar which offers beers and signature cocktails.  Our kids had so much fun.  The slide is a bit mild and maybe geared toward smaller children, but our kids still went on it and thought it was pretty fun.  They also have a splash area for smaller children which was packed with toddlers and preschoolers.  This pool area was relaxing and we never had to fight for a seat by the pool.  We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at the pool.

5.  Food-

As is true for all Moderate Resort types, there is not a fine dining option here.  There is however a food court which is decorated in the same New Orleans style.  Here they have tons of options from burgers to po boys, pizza and salads.  My personal favorite were the beignets!  They will do them gluten free!  I was in heaven!

6.  Rooms-

The rooms were comfortable.  Our room was on the second floor which was lovely.  We had a great stay in this room and found it clean and comfy.

7.  Disney Springs-

I touched on this above when talking about transportation.  The convenience of taking the boat to Disney Springs was a nice option.  I am not sure if we would have gone over to Disney Springs if it wasn't for the boat.  I am so glad we did.  Disney Springs is a big shopping and eating area connected to Disney world.  There are all sorts of options here for food.  You can find everything from high end seafood to Irish Pubs.  We have tried a few restaurants here and look forward to trying more in upcoming trips.  Also here, you can find The World of Disney Store, The Lego Store, The Disney Dress Shop plus tons of family centric shopping options.  We had so much fun during out time at Disney Springs.

8.  Decor-

The resort is decorated in New Orleans fashion with plenty of purple, green and gold..  There are fountains sprinkled throughout the property.  The balconies look reminiscent of the French Quarter in New Orleans.  We really liked the feeling of this resort.  There was a horse drawn carriage that you can get rides in that go up and down the property which definitely add to the ambiance.

We really loved this resort.  It was quaint and lovely.  It met our needs perfectly.  Although I love the deluxe resorts, there is something to be said for small.  This resort was perfect in size, price and amenities.

XOXO,
LEAH
